PDO Threads

PDO stands for Polydioxanone, which has been used in cardiothoracic surgery for decades! It is fully absorbed by hydrolysis within 4 to 6 months and doesn’t create any scar tissue. The foreign body stimulates collagen synthesis and the skin structure created will hold for another 12 to 15 months. The bad reputation of threads that were used in the past was due to the fact that they weren’t always absorbable and that there were more complications for those who didn’t have any surgical skills. Using PDO solves that issue.

Restoring the V-Shape.

Although PDO Threads can be inserted almost anywhere, one area where they are especially effective is the neck and jawline.
The lower third of the face is challenging to effectively treat with botulinum toxin or injectable fillers, which are most effective in the upper and middle third of the face, respectively.
A beautiful and healthy face has a “V-shape.” With the aging of tissues and the action of gravity, this “V shape” diminishes or inverts.
Luckily, the two different types of PDO Threads Techniques, respectively using SMOOTH and BARBED threads, can either create a scaffolding in order to support the tissues and keep them in the “V-shape,” or where necessary, to delicately lift the tissues and reposition the skin to recreate the “V-shape” where it’s been lost.

Today, BOTOX® and Dermal Fillers are so common that you probably have a hand full of friends who have had injections. Cosmetic injectable treatments are practically an extension of skin care routines. Now, another treatment is generating the type of buzz that surrounded BOTOX and fillers when they first emerged: PDO threads. This minimally invasive treatment, often called a thread lift, helps patients tighten skin by adding volume and smoothing lines and wrinkles. It requires virtually no downtime and involves little discomfort. Sound too good to be true?
As we age, the youthful “V” shape of our face gradually starts to lose its definition as the skin becomes less elastic and muscles give way to gravity. Eventually, wrinkles, folds, and jowls develop, and the facial shape is an inverted “V” without the angular, defined appearance of our youth.

‍What Is a Thread Lift?

Simply Bliss Med Spa recommends smooth threads for areas of tired, crepey skin, common around the eyes, the upper lip, the hollows of the cheeks, under the chin and around the mouth (e.g., laugh lines). PDO threads are absorbable surgical polydioxanone (PDO) threads that can be used virtually anywhere on the face or body. Thinner than hair and made of protein, the threads are inserted below the skin to elicit a mild injury that the body responds to by adding structural proteins (fibrin, elastin, collagen), resulting in a smoother, plumper appearance. This includes your lip area, near the eyes to treat crow’s feet, on the forehead to treat the lines and around the mouth for marionette lines. PDO threads can complement (or be used in place of) BOTOX, as an alternative to dermal fillers and to treat the lip area.

How Is a Thread Lift Performed?

First, you’ll have a consultation with your provider to decide how many threads are needed to achieve your desired effect. Because the procedure doesn’t involve incisions, you don’t have to worry about scars. In fact, aside from some minor swelling, there are typically no other side effects associated with a smooth thread procedure, and patients may return to work or other activities if they’re comfortable

When Will I See Results?

You’ll see the lifting effects of a thread lift nearly immediately after swelling resolves. Skin will gradually appear tighter and smoother as new collagen is produced for several months after the procedure. The threads used in the procedure-a biocompatible suture material called polydioxanone (PDO)-are absorbed by the body. Typically, the threads dissolve 4 to 6 weeks following the PDO thread procedure.

What Are PDO Threads?

No cuts or incisions, just injections! PDO threads are needles that are pre-loaded with these dissolvable sutures. Simply insert the whole needle in the interstitial tissue at subdermal level, parallel to the surface of the skin, & pull the needle out. The PDO thread remains under the skin to stimulate collagen and fibroblast production, angiogenesis and provide many anti-aging benefits.
